Day 9 and 10 - Double Digits!

Day 9

Hey,

Today was great.... but hot. War horse was great! The puppets were amazing! The acting was ok.. and Albert was really whiny but the rest was awesome! The play made me really want to see the movie. I checked on netflix but they didn't have it. They did have a documentary about the making of the play that was awesome. After we got back me and Sharon ate dinner and watched some of the documentary. Then we ran to see Pina, which is a documentary film they were showing in the Bijou. A word of advice.... don't ever see it. It's a trip man, the dancing is crazy and none of it is explained. It's a sundance film and it is WEIRD. We stayed because we thought it might get better but it didn't. It ate up an hour and a half of my life and there was still thirty minutes left when I just couldn't take it anymore. I'm back in my room now and I am gonna relax for a while.

Love you,

Day 10 Double Digits!

Hey,

Things are good here. I'm a bit tired but other than that things are going good. Except in sculpture my stupid head is too big and too thin and it is not working!!! UGHHHH!!! .... Anyways other than that things have been normal we had A and C today with some painter lady who does abstract and hates Bush. Our foam sculpture gallery just opened and this week we are making lamps, which is exciting. I'm stuck between dragons and silhouette boxes. We took our department photos today and I think it turned out well. I'm excited for this week and what it might bring.

Love you,

I miss you all so much and I can't wait to see you again. I miss home food and Pepper ... oh and I miss you guys too. (jk jk) I think I am seriously allergic to something or just am getting sick but I am so congested. I am really tired so I am going to go to sleep. I fowarded mum some pictures of my projects. Hope you Like em.

Love you.

Day 7?

Hey,
How's everything going at home? Things here are great today I started my ceramics and photo class. Ceramics was ok, but the teacher talked to us like we were second graders. In fact I think second graders would be offended. For our project we are making heads hopefully mine turns out ok. I finished my project for sculpture. During open studio time I had to run to three different classes to work on projects, each of them on a different floor. Needless to say my feet HURT!! Photo was great. We are using actual film cameras and I totally felt like Peter Parker while I was taking pictures. Tomorrow we start developing the film. I hope they turn out ok. I am really tired so I'm gonna turn in.

Love you guys,
<3 Hannah

Day 5...I Think

Hey,

Look at that, I'm here less than a week and I have already lost track of the days. Today was good. I woke up earlier than normal this morning and got breakfast and then I made an amazing discovery..... They have hot chocolate!!! It was amazing! I am super congested and I am worried I'm getting sick. But hey they invented hot chocolate for a reason right? And that reason is to soothe the throat of a young congested girl at art school. Hmm mmm true story. Anyways I am working on my sculpture and I need some serious help. I decided to do it comic book themed but now I have to draw panels and I am drawing a blank here (literally). If you could send some examples and stuff by tomorrow I would be eternally grateful. I started design class today its fun but the problem is I only have two days for this project and one of them was today. I had to put in some open studio hours today and my feet are killing me. I'm starting to get in the swing of things here. It's a nice school and the weather is moderate some of the time in fact we even got three minutes of rain today! I am really tired so I am gonna go.

I love you all, good night.

Day 4 and A Happy Birthday to Hunter

Heya Guys!

First of all I'll say Happy Birthday to Hunter. Some 14th birthday advice: don't worry about dances or high school I am there for you bro, plaid and camo do not match and they never will, don't ever loan people a pencil because they often don't give it back, if you can't tell what kind of meat it is DON' EAT IT and most importantly if some kid comes up to you and starts talking about the gnome he saw while playing baseball just nod your head until he goes away. Follow that advice and you should be fine. Today was great. In the morning I usually get up around 6:40 and head to breakfast at 7 to avoid the morning rush. This morning I woke up, looked at the clock and it said seven. I started freaking out and got dressed, while trying not to wake up my roommates and I was about to head out when I decided to look and the clock again this time with my glasses.... it read 6:20. Other than that the morning was normal. I went to sculpture and I am making and art piece based on comic books. This piece is as if panels and other random crap are coming out of the comic book. So far so good but now I have to write and draw a comic book with "Personal meaning" so that should be interesting. The thing I've learned about working with artists as teachers is that they see their own image and when you try to describe what it is that the piece means to you they don't see it and they most likely never will. After class I had lunch and went to figure drawing. It was good our teacher "Bob" or "Ross" as he likes to be known is an old eccentric man. He's very funny but like I said eccentric. When he talks, which he does the whole time whilst we're drawing, you can hear the faintest hippy accent and he says "man" a lot. But he's lots of fun even though no one ever understands his instructions. After that we had to wait for dinner and then wait for a late Art and Culture session. After dinner to pass the time we went to an animation and film presentation of the teachers in the Bijou. It's where they introduce the teachers and show examples of their work. We then went to Art and Culture with the costume designer Ann Closs-Farley. She was super funny and super talented. She mostly does plays but she knows a lot of different actors. The Art and Culture was so good that it ran late.(It's the reason I'm writing so late) Anyways I can't wait for tomorrow because I am gong to start my design class.

Good Night I love you all and Happy Birthday Hunter,

<3 Hannah

Day 3 and Still Going Strong

Hey Everyone

I know I'm writing a little earlier than normal but classes finished and dinner is finished and there's nothing else to do so here I write. Classes are great! Today I had sculpture and figure drawing class. Sculpture was great we are doing pieces based of and certain sculpture's style, we are making them out of foam and can only use black and white coloring. I came up with several designs but apparently I am supposed to find some deeper meaning than " It looks cool" so I am kind of stuck on that.

Figure drawing was cool, we had a live model luckily he was not nude but speedos are still gross. The teacher is very old and very knowledgeable but not to good and telling what he wants. He's trying to get us to draw without using outlines and shading, just use random strokes to make a picture and that was great until my many lines started to make something resembling a picture and he made me start over, but hey you can't win everything.

Vivian and I then met up with Momo, Gabbi and Sharon to go to Art and Culture. We talked with this guy that is doing this " Trailer Trash project". Its about providing art and stuff to the less fortunate or something but I'm not really sure and I don't think he is either. I was with him until he started to talk about supporting Occupy Wallstreet. Then we had dinner and ... here I am. Everything's going great except I am super sore and my legs are about to give in. I went exploring a bit this morning and took some pictures of this door I found, the sculpture classroom and a couple of my dorm. I am going to try to send them to you.

Love you guys

Day Dos

Hi Everyone!!

Today has been great so far. I am not quite used to the bed yet and I woke up early but hey early is better than late right? This morning I got up and got breakfast (btw the food here rocks!) I met a kid named Ali or Ollie, I'm not sure how he spells it. I hung out until 9 and then dropped of my art piece for the gallery on Tuesday. I hung out with my friends and we went to orientation and then on a tour of the school. I'm going to take some pictures to send to you guys. My legs are so sore from climbing all of those stairs -.- . We went to lunch and I got this bomb vegetarian pizza that tasted amazing. All the things I love about combination but without the meat :P . We met a girl named Gabbi and she hung out with us for awhile and we went to the MOD for a slideshow of the teachers art. Unfortunately for me it seems many of them enjoy "modern art" and there is one guy who only paints these poorly drawn naked people. Anyways after the slideshow we all went to our dorms and rested for a while then Momo (my roommate) suggested we go to the film departments "musical comedy on film" it was kind of a presentation on Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly. It was really interesting and it reminded me how much I want to go into film. After that we had dinner and went to a presentation of animated shorts and Daddy me and you combined could make a kick butt short film. I'm back in my dorm and I'm going to go to sleep now.

I love all of you

My First Day at CSSSA

Hey everyone!

My first day at CSSSA has been a great one. The people are nice and the air is practically buzzing with creativity. I can not wait for orientation tomorrow.Cal Arts is great, the campus is beautiful and the dorms are comfy. There are a few things that are inconvenient . One being that the halls all look the same and there are about a million staircases everywhere!!! I am convinced that Cal Arts is made up of 20 percent staircases, but on the plus side by the end of the summer I should be really physically fit. As for the program so far everything is great the rules are simple to follow if you have any sense of morals the only problem may be tardiness (mainly do to the many flights of stairs I must climb). I have made two friends so far Sharon and Vivian we have several classes together and we plan on hanging out more. My dorm room is great and so far I like my room mates. Tomorrow should be fun!

Love ya'll miss you tons!!
